DESCRIPTION Port Glasgow is a small harbour of refuge set in a rural area on the north coast of Lake Erie. The area was originally settle by highland Scots around 1818. This is a rich agricultural area and this small, neat harbour is operated by the local Port Glasgow Yacht Club. It is a good, safe harbour in poor weather or a nice stopover for a quiet day or two. |
APPROACHES The approaches to Port Glasgow are clear from all directions. The harbour entrance is marked with a white tower topped with a Fl GREEN light visible about 6.28 nm offshore If there is a strong south wind blowing, the channel entrance can be challenging due to surge. However, the layout inside ensure a quiet berth. NOTE: All along this coastline, commercial fishermen use gill nets so a close watch needs to be maintained. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES Port Glasgow Yacht Club (519) 758-0189 VHF 68 PGYC operates the marina. There are 50 slips with 10 set aside for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline) and a pumpout station. There is water and power available at slips. Washrooms and showers are available in the small clubhouse. Amenities include a nearby beach, picnic area and BBQ grills. The Village of Rodney, ON is located 5 mi/8 km north and has a small shopping area. |
