DESCRIPTION Meldrum Bay was settled in the late 1800's and developed as a logging and fishing community. At one time, it was home to a good-sized Great Lakes fishing fleet. Until the early 1960's, the village was connected to the mainland by ferries. However, the opening of the TansCanada Highway changed all of that. Today, the local economy is based on the nearby Lafarge quarry and tourism. It is a popular stop-over for sailors cruising the North Channel. |
APPROACHES The approach to Meldrum Bay is straightforward. The bay has a very wide mouth (approximately 3 nm). The village lies along the west shoreline, near the south end of the bay. The bay gives natural protection from the east, south and west. There is a 1,500 ft/457 m breakwater which gives protection from the north. The marina is marked with a F RED light. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES Meldrum Bay Marina (705) 283-3252 VHF 68 Meldrum Bay Marina has 40 slips and a number are available for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline) and a pumpout station. There is water and power at slips. The marina has washrooms, showers and laundry facilities. The village is steps away. Anchorage There is a charted anchorage ground to the southeast of the marina. |
REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE, PROVISIONING, BANKS/ATM's There are no marine repair facilities in Meldrum Bay. Meldrum Bay Country Store carries groceries, local produce and meats. There is no bank or ATM machine in the village. |
