DESCRIPTION The village of Harrisville MI was established in 1854. It sits at the eastern edge of the Huron National Forest - a nearly 1 millon acre wilderness reserve with countless lakes and wetlands and hundreds of miles of creeks, streams and rivers. As such, outdorr recreation activities play a major role in community life. The harbor is officially designated as a Harbor of Refuge and has newly-upgraded facilities. |
APPROACHES The approaches to Harrisville MI are clear with this warning. This part of the coastline shoals a good distance out. Whether you approach from the north or the south, stand off from the coast at least 2 and better 3 nm to avoid these shoals and the charted obstructions. Give Sturgeon Point to the north a wide berth. You enter the harbor on the north side, through a gap between 2 breakwaters. The gap is marked with a Fl GREEN light (visible 6 mi/5.2 nm offshore) on the end of the east breakwall and a Fl RED light (visible 6.6 nm offshore) on the end of the north breakwall. Once inside, the municipal marina is across the harbor, on your bow. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES Harrisville Municipal Marina (989) 724-5712 VHF 9, 14, 16 The Harrisville MI marina has 94 slips for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline) and a pumpout station. Water and power are available at slips. A new harbor building has restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. There is also a lounge, computers you can use and internet access. Complimentary bicycles are available and a complimentary shuttle service can be arranged. The harbormaster has a mechanic available on a 24/7 basis. There are picnic areas with BBQ grills, a children's playground and a beach you can enjoy. THINGS TO DO/SEE/VISIT Harrisville MI is another good location for excellent fishing. It is a quiet community with lots of small, interesting shops to explore as you wander around this pleasant community. Mid-July, Harrisville holds an Antiques and Collectibles Show and a Wine and Food Festival.
