DESCRIPTION The village of Fair Haven Michigan was first settled in the early 1800's. The village lies mostly between the nearby Dixie Highway and the shoreline, along a number of inlets and lagoons. However, for a small community, it is well-served for sailors, with a number of marinas, businesses that cater to the boating community and restaurants & pubs. |
APPROACHES The approach to Fair Haven Michigan is straightforward. Proceed to the Fl GREEN marker - G "1FH". From this marker, make your course approximately 320oT for about .5 nm to the harbor entrance. There is a channel marked with private buoys. From your chart, you will see that water depth can be quite shallow so exercise caution entering the harbor. Note also the piles on either side of the harbor entrance. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES When you enter the harbor, you will come upon the following marinas in order. Compass Point Marina is on your starboard. The others will be on your port. Compass Point Marina (586) 725-3011 Compass Point Marina has approximately 2 dozen slips for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (gasoline) and a pumpout station. There is water and power available dockside. There are restrooms, showers and laundry facilities and the marina has picnic areas. There is an on-site convernience store. Kip's Cove (586) 725-0500 Kip's Cove has several slips for transient sailors. Restrooms and showers are available. There are picnic areas and BBQ grills. Terry's Marina (586) 709-9559 Terry's Marina has transient docking for about a dozen boats. There is no fuel dock but there is a pumpout station. There are restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. There is a heated swimming pool, sports and playground area and picnic areas. There is internet access. Swan Creek Harbor (586) 725-0055 Swan Creek harbor has several slips available for transient sailors. There is no fuel dock but there is water and power available dockside. The marina can carry out engine, mechanical and electrical repairs. There is a haulout facility. There are restrooms, showers, picnic and BBQ areas. There is internet access. Anchoring There are a number of small anchorages in the area. The bottom is sandy and the water is shallow, in most places, less than 10 ft/3 m. |
REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE, PROVISIONING, BANKS/ATM's Swan Creek Harbor is a full-service marina (See above) Fair Haven Market is a small grocery store in the village. Essentials can be picked up here. There is a drive-through ATM at the west end of the village. |

PLACES TO EAT Buck's Family Diner is a small restaurant on the west edge of the harbor. Rene's Port Lounge Inn is located east of the harbor. Serves up Polish cuisine as well as other homemade items such as perogies and sausages, steaks and burgers. Bobby Mac's Bayside tavern and Grill, located east of the harbor, has a patio with a terrific view of the lake. It has a varied menu of meats and seafood and casual summer meals. There is entertainment in the summer. The Raft is a popular bar and grill that specializes in burgers and chili. |
THINGS TO DO/SEE/VISIT This area is perfect for gunkholing. The low-lying and marshy 'Flats" are great for exploring. Much of the water is shallow so care is needed. This area is a bird watcher's paradise. Return to Lake St. Clair Return to Home |
