DESCRIPTION Erieau is a full-service port located in the entrance into Rondeau Bay. Rondeau Bay itself is roughly 6 mile by 2 mile /10 km by 3 km bay that is quite shallow. It is bounded on the east by Rondeau Provincial Park and on the north and west by farmland. The south side of Rondeau Bay is a spit and the village lies at the end of this spit. The village docking area offers good protection when strong southerly winds are blowing. The bay is an excellent fishing ground and the provincial park is a significant part of the provincial park system. |
APPROACHES The approaches the Erieau are clear from all directions. From the east, you will see the ISO RED light at the end of Pointe Aux Pins, visible approximately 8 nm offshore. It stands approximately 3 nm east of the harbour entrance. NOTE: There is a charted wreck immediately to the east of the channel. The harbour itself is marked with a long western seawall with a Fl GREEN light. This Fl GREEN light is the front range marker. The rear range marker is an orange triangular daymarker with a Fl GREEN light. The east breakwater is marked with a Fl RED light. About 1/2 way up the entrance is a channel running to the west. Turn into this channel to reach the marina and the village. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES Erieau Marina (519 676-4511 VHF 68 Located in the short channel leading into the village, Erieau Marina is a full-service marina. It has docking for approximately 300 boats with about 100 slips for transients. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline) and a pump-out station. There is water and power available dockside. There is a full marine repair centre here capable of engine, mechanical, electrical and fiberglass repair and maintenance. There are washrooms, showers and laundery facilities. Other amenities include picnic and BBQ areas, a restaurant and a well-stocked chandlery. Barney's Boats (519) 676-4471 VHF 68 Under management by Erieau Marina, Barney's is a full-service marina adjacent to Erieau Marina. It has a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline). It provides full engine, mechanical and electrical maintenance services. It has a haul out facility. There is a well-stocked chandlery here as well. Anchorage There is an anchorage area immediately to the east of the inner end of the entrance channel. Make sure you monitor depths carefully as the water can get quite skinny. |
REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE, PROVISIONING, BANKS/ATM's Both Erieau Marina and Barney's Boats provide full repair and maintenance services (see above). The closest grocery stores are in nearby Blenheim 9 mi/14 km northwest. You will need a car to get there. The nearest banks or ATM's are located in Blenhein. |
MEDICAL SERVICES There are no medical facilities in the village. The nearest hospital is Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (519-352-6400) located in Chatham, 18 mi/30 km northwest. The nearest pharmacy is McIntyre's Pharmacy (519-676-5467) located in Blenheim, 9 mi/14 km northwest. |
PLACES TO EAT Molly & OJ's Restaurant Tavern is a popular restaurant serving fresh fish, steaks, pastas, etc with a good selection of wines and beers. Eau Buoy Galley is a popular diner-style restaurant serving casual meals. |
THINGS TO DO/SEE/VISIT Rondeau Provincial Park across the bay is a gem in the provincial park system. It protects a large amount of Carolinean Forest and is home to a wide variety of rare species. Its on a flyway and is a great place for birdwatching during annual migration times - everything from butterflies to magnificant swans pass overhead. There are 6 hiking trails to explore this unique park. There are great beaches on the lake side of the peninsula. The winds offshore provide good sailboarding opportunities. Fishing, both in the bay and out in the lake is very good and a number of charter operations are located in Erieau.
