DESCRIPTION Caseville MI is situated on the west side of Michigan's 'Thumb', north of Saginaw Bay. The area was first settled in 1836. As it grew from its fishing port beginnings, it went through several name changes before settling on Caseville. The fishing industry has waned and tourism is now a vital part of the local economy. As will be detailed more fully below, Caseville MI hosts the annual "Cheeseburger in Caseville" festival, ranked one of Michigan's top summer festivals. |
APPROACHES The approaches to Caseville MI are clear from all directions. Sailors coming from the northwest (eg Oscoda or East Tawas) need to give Charity Island wide berth. Note also the charted wreck immediately west of Charity Island. The harbor lies at the mouth of the Pidgeon River. The entrance channel lies on the south side of a .25 nm long breakwater. There is a Fl GREEN light at the end of this breakwater, visible 6 nm offshore. The south side of the harbour, the channel is marked by three unlit RED buoys. In addition, there is a range marked by 2 F RED lights bearing 113.5°T which will brring you up the center of the channel. Following the channel another .3 nm will bring you to the Caseville Municipal Docks. |
MARINAS, YACHT CLUBS, MOORINGS, ANCHORAGES Caseville Municipal Harbor (989) 856-4590 VHF 9 Caseville Municipal Harbor has 124 slips with 62 set aside for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline)) and a pumpout station. Water and power are available at slips. There are also cable TV hookups. There are restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. Other amenities include picnic areas with BBQ grills and internet access. Hoy's Saginaw Bay Marina (989) 856-4775 VHF 16 Hoy's is located on your port side as you come up the river channel, in the first basin. There are 140 slips with 10 set aside for transient sailors. There is a fuel dock (gasoline only) and pumpout station. This is a full-service marina, able to carry out engine, mechanical, fibreglass and canvas repairs. Water and power are available at the docks. There are restrooms and showers available. Anchorage It is possible to anchor north east of the harbor entrance, off the park beach. However, this is a totally exposed anchor ground. |

They can carry out mechanical, fibreglass and canvas repairs. Caseville Family Market is about 1 block from the marina. They can handle reprovisioning requirements. Independent Bank, about 3 blocks from the marina, has counter and ATM service. |

PLACES TO EAT The Bluewater Inn is a popular place for dining and relaxing. They have take-out service and entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings. Riverside Roadhouse is anoth bar/grill located downtown. You can enjoy dinner on their deck overlooking the river. For a slightly different experience, try Thumb Brewery. It is both a craft brewery and a pub with a menu that ranges from light snacks to great sanwiches, burgers and pizza. |
THINGS TO DO/SEE/VISIT There is a lot that happens in Caseville over the summer. There is an excellent beach to enjoy, just north of the harbor entrance. The season kicks off with Ribstock Festival featuring music, games and a rib cook-off. July also sees the Summer Tribute Concert. However ..... August in Caseville means only one thing - Cheeseburger in Caseville. This is the largest tribute festival to Jimmy Buffet in the United States. Over 10 days, some 80,000 people will descend on the village to enjoy caribbean and tropical themes, music, music, food, and of course - cheeseburgers.
